[Insert Title Here] Chapter 2 - New FriendsI held back tears as I listened to what they said.
"You're just a freak!"
"Go back to the forest where you belong!"
"Shikamaru should have left you to die!"
I had been at the academy for five years now. Surely, I should be used to this sort of teasing, as it had been going on since day one...but no. Previously, it had been bearable. Shikamaru had been there too, so I always had someone to go to for help besides the teachers. Now, he was a genin, and I was alone. I couldn't even go talk to him about it after school, since he was always so busy with training and missions. The only one left to turn to was Iruka-sensei, but he always seemed so preoccupied. I didn't want to bother him.
With a sigh, I tried to block out the voices of twenty or thirty other kids. Naturally enough, it didn't work. Suddenly there was another voice among them. "Hey, cut it out, you guys!" the boy yelled.
Then another, who seemed to be the first one's friend. "Yeah! What did she ever do to you?"

He hadn’t spoken for a while, and I had been expecting a question like that, but I still wasn’t sure how to answer. I took a moment to think, and then said, “My family has always lived in the forest. My mom told me stories of the Hidden Villages, though. She said there were lots of villages, and that the Leaf was the closest. She also said that the villages, and the shinobi protecting them, didn’t like us. They didn’t like our wild roots. Mom always told me to stay away from the Hidden Villages at all costs.” Looking over at him, I added, “I guess she was wrong.”
He smiled. “Guess she was.”
“So I guess I’m a Hidden Leaf Village citizen now,” I said. “I can’t go back home… Will I have to become a ninja?”
“You don’t have to, but it’s a good idea.”
